No work may begin and no charge may accrue until Client provides written authorization to proceed and receives a copy of this Contract signed by both parties. Any amendment, addendum, or modification must be in writing and, as applicable, describe the changed scope, approximate start and completion dates, delivery method, fees, and other agreed terms.

Essential client terms

Lawful purpose and disclosure

Client will use the services and information only for a lawful purpose and will not use them to stalk, harass, threaten, unlawfully monitor, or violate a court order. Client must disclose any restraining order, domestic-violence matter, criminal complaint, custody dispute, known weapon, threat, violence, or other material safety concern involving the assignment.

Cooperation and methods

Client will provide complete and accurate information, promptly report material changes, and avoid interfering with fieldwork. Investigator controls lawful methods, scheduling, staffing, and safety decisions and may pause or stop unsafe, unlawful, unauthorized, or materially misrepresented work.

Payment cancellation and termination

The retainer is applied to earned fees and costs. Client owes fees for work performed, approved expenses, and specifically disclosed reserved-time charges. Either party may terminate in writing. Investigator may suspend or terminate for nonpayment, unsafe conditions, interference, unlawful purpose, or material nondisclosure. Any unused retainer balance will be handled as required by law and the written fee terms above.

No guarantee and reports

Investigator does not guarantee that a person, fact, evidence, or useful activity will be found or that any court, agency, insurer, employer, or other person will reach a particular result. Reports reflect information reasonably available at the time. Client is responsible for lawful use and protection of delivered information.

Confidentiality records and signatures

Investigator will use reasonable safeguards and may disclose information when authorized, needed to perform the work, or required by law or legal process. Electronic transmission carries inherent risk. Investigator will retain the signed contract and investigative findings for at least two years as required by California law. Electronic signatures and counterparts are valid.

Report timing and other matters

If the parties agreed to a written report above, Investigator will provide it within 30 days after completion of the investigation using the selected delivery method.

Signature and authorization

By signing, Client authorizes Investigator to proceed only with the written scope above and acknowledges receiving a copy of this Contract. No assignment is accepted until the Investigator completes any required countersignature or confirms acceptance in writing.
